Rob Watson, Chair
Mr. Rob Watson is a Business Development Manager in Bank of America’s Consumer Vehicle Lending business. In this role, he manages client relationships and long-term contracts, leveraging internal partnerships to effectively serve the needs of both the client and Bank of America. Previously, Rob served as the Controller for Bank of America’s Global Commercial Banking and Business Banking division, and has held roles in accounting policy (at both Bank of America and Wells Fargo) and financial audit (at Pricewaterhouse Coopers). From July 2011 until May 2016, Rob served the local community as the co-chairman of the Citizen’s Transit Advisory Group, an advisory board tasked with reviewing the operating and capital programs of the Charlotte Area Transit System and providing recommendations to the Metropolitan Transit Commission. He was appointed to this role by the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners. Rob is the author of a book on parenting called Be a Dad (which is available on Amazon) and is co-founder of a local business, Tailgate Transport. He is a certified public accountant and received bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and International Business from the University of Richmond and a Master of Accountancy degree from Auburn University. Rob is originally from Columbia, MD and now lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Brittany, and his three children that attend Scholars Academy - Reagan (class of 2020), and twins Dylan and Brynn (class of 2023). He is also an avid runner and tri-athlete.
Sabrina Liner, Vice Chair
Mrs. Sabrina Liner has a B.S. in Business Management with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Accounting from NC State University, and a J.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill. In a prior life, she worked as a Trusts and Estates Attorney for a large law firm in Atlanta and as a Wealth Advisor for a multi-national bank in Hong Kong. She currently works longer hours and receives less pay as a stay-at-home mom to her 2 young sons, Camilo (1st grader at Scholars Academy) and Sevastian (age 4½). Sabrina also works as a substitute teacher at the Harris YMCA Spanish Immersion Preschool Program and is learning more about early childhood education on the job. In the summer, you will find Sabrina and her family enjoying lake life every weekend.
Manish Mittal, Treasurer
Mr. Manish Mittal is a Business Analyst at Wells Fargo Securities, supporting Commodities and Fixed Income derivatives trading. His role involves analyzing and implementing derivative products, Market risk and Credit risk measures, regulatory reporting and operational efficiencies. He has worked at Bank of America in Global Wealth and Investment Management group and Citigroup in his prior jobs. Manish graduated from JNV University, Jodhpur, India with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He is a CFA charterholder, regular member of CFA society of North Carolina since 2006 and member of Project Management Institute since 2009. Manish also volunteers his time at the Hindu Center of Charlotte and leads the weekly radio show and library. Manish is originally from India and has lived in Charlotte for over 10 years with his wife Niketa and their two children who attend Scholars Academy, Nandini and Megha.
Alicia Gozycki, Secretary
Mrs. Alicia Gozycki runs the Scholars Academy Parent Support Group, which supplies gifted resources and research to the Scholars community. A gifted / twice exceptional advocate and member of SENG, Alicia has found her passion helping local parents understand the unique traits of their gifted children. She holds an English degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and has worked in various capacities within the advertising and marketing realm. Alicia and her husband Matthew have called Charlotte home for twelve years, and have two children at Scholars, Connor (4th grade) and Grace (2nd grade.) Alicia has been active with Team Fox and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for four years, running two marathons, three half marathons and multiple other races to raise funds for Parkinson's research and support friends and family fighting the disease.
Makila Scruggs, Director
Makila Scruggs is a labor and employment lawyer who works at Ingersoll Rand. Makila graduated from Georgetown University and earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia. Makila has lived in Charlotte for over ten years with her husband, James, and their two children, Jaden and Malachi, who both attend Scholars Academy. In her spare time, Makila enjoys reading, yoga and running.
Mr. Jack Wagler has a J.D., a M.Sc. in International Business and a B.A., with a double major in Political Science and German, from the University of Wisconsin at Madison (including two years of study abroad in West Germany and the United Kingdom). Jack is an Executive Director at Ernst & Young where he joined to establish a new Specialty Finance Advisory practice focused on providing strategy and implementation advisory services to independent and captive specialty finance companies. Jack has more than 21 years of experience in the financial services sector as an investment banker, consultant and CEO/Board Member of a financial services technology start-up. Throughout his career, Jack has always focused on the innovative and enigmatic—from startup companies, to new market sectors. Jack grew up on a farm in Southwestern Wisconsin and is the son and grandson of teachers. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 Jack served as a Board Member and Treasurer for Carolina STEM Academy—a startup STEM charter high school. Jack lives in Charlotte with his wife, Kitty, their four children—Jared (Scholars 2014), Janelle, Marieke (Scholars 2018), Amanda (Scholars 2019)—two dogs and a parrot (who is positive he is a person and not a bird). In his free time Jack enjoys working in the garden, biking, and building and tinkering with computers.
Sterling Scott, Director
Mr. Sterling Scott is the founder of two North Carolina-based tech startups. Sterling was raised in Charlotte and was a member of the Scholars Academy's first graduating class in 2003. He went to Zebulon B. Vance High School and graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Sterling is on the Charlotte Chamber Young Professionals Board and the City of Charlotte's Business Advisory Committee. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering in the community, traveling, and spending time with his son, Jet, and his dog, Lock.
Mani Ramasamy, Director
Mr. Mani Ramasamy is a Technology Manager at Bank of America, managing the team responsible for data movement services in the Wholesale Banking area. He graduated from Bharathidasan University, Trichy in Tamil Nadu, India with a Masters degree in Computer Applications. Mani moved to the United States in 2000 and lived in Chicago for over 4 years. He moved to Charlotte back in 2005 with his wife Haripriya “Priya”. He has two children who were born in Charlotte and attend Scholars Academy, Mahathi (class of 2022) and Pranav (class of 2024). Prior to joining the Scholars board, he managed to run Arasi Nagara Tamil Palli for over 4 years, a registered non-profit school teaches Tamil, one of the oldest languages, for the students in and around the Charlotte metro area. In his free time, he enjoys volunteering in the community and loves to do outdoor activities.
Smita Korrapati, Director
Smita G. Korrapati is an attorney specializing
in real estate law. Smita graduated with honors from New York University's
Leonard N. Stern School of Business with a dual degree in Finance and
Information Systems. She then worked at Merrill Lynch as a Business Analyst
before going back to school to receive her Juris Doctorate from New York Law
School. Smita worked as an Associate at Dewey & LeBoeuf in their New York
office specializing in design, construction, leasing, aquisition and
disposition of key real estate assets of cultural, educational and governmental
clients. She also co-authored several publications as well as a treatise on
green buildings law. Smita lives in Mooresville with her husband, Vineet,
and two children at Scholars, Krish (4th grade) and Riya (2nd grade). Smita
loves dancing and enjoys (for the most part) choreographing her
Malik Dixon, Director
Malik Dixon is a trial lawyer and small business owner. His practice is focused upon insurance subrogation, personal injury advocacy, and commercial litigation. He attended Cornell University, where he met his spouse, Dr. Shamieka Virella Dixon, Medical Director of Teen Health Connection. He obtained his law degree from the David A. Clarke School of Law. Malik previously worked in the Washington, D.C., non-profit sector, with a focus on fundraising, and has several years of small business management experience in the healthcare industry. The Dixons are from New York and now call Charlotte home. Malik has been a long-time practitioner of the martial arts and loves a good book, but most of all – he enjoys attending his girls’ extra-curricular activities (Journey Class of 2023 & Phoenix Class of 2027).
