Miss Hinkelman is in her thirteenth year at the Scholars Academy. She has degrees in history, English and music, as well as both an MAT in elementary education and AIG certification. She has taught in Las Vegas and Pittsburgh, as well as other locations in North Carolina and has worked with students of every age, including high school. Miss Hinkelman directs the school musical every year, an activity that involves a third of the school population. She is also a frequent presenter at state conferences. She presented in Phoenix at the national gifted conference and the NSTA conference in LA. She has presented multiple times at the gifted conference at The College of William and Mary. She proposed and organized the Scholars Academy gifted conference for two years, emceed Night of the Arts (and played the flute on multiple occasions), ran the drama club, serves as the spelling bee pronouncer, takes students to the Shakespeare Monologue competition and organizes a school-wide Veteran's Day program. In her spare time, Miss Hinkelman can be found performing with a variety of singing groups and community theaters in the Charlotte area; she also serves on the Board for the Old Courthouse Theater in Concord.
